KELLOGG — It was the biggest SilverHoops 3-on-3 Tournament ever and it lived up to the hype.

With 147 teams taking over the Teeters Field basketball courts, as well as the Kellogg Swimming Pool parking lot this last weekend, it was two full days of exciting hoops.

This year, the format was changed up a bit for everyone as the first day of the entire tournament was pool-play, designed to help properly seed the single elimination tournaments scheduled for Sunday.

The added stipulation really upped the intensity of the event for both days as teams wanted to win and ensure a high seed, as well as the “win or go home” format that followed it.

Outside some blustery wind on Saturday, the tournament went fairly smooth from top to bottom according to the event’s organizers.

“Everything pretty much went according to plan,” said Mallory Phillips, Silver Valley Chamber director. “We got a lot of positive feedback and had some new teams show up and really enjoy the tournament.”

The new teams were a huge part of what made the event so successful, as 30 brand new teams made their first appearances in Kellogg.

“We really went hard at social media marketing this year,” Phillips said. “That is where we pulled a lot of our newer teams from. We did a poll as people registered and it was that they either heard about us through social media or through our mailers in the HoopFest packets.”

The addition of the Men’s Elite Division was a fun change of pace as well, which allowed some of the top flight talent from around the region to really get a chance to showcase their skill sets against other teams of the same ilk, which naturally drew a solid size crowd to their court anytime a game was going on.

Phillips and the rest of the folks behind SilverHoops would like to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers for helping make the event run so smoothly.
