SANDPOINT — A Sagle man has been arrested for enticing a child over the internet in order to sexually exploit her.

Justin Lyle Gibson, 33, made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday via video feed, although available court documents do not contain information about his bail or the appointment of defense counsel.

Gibson fell under scrutiny after Bonner County sheriff’s investigators received a cyber tip from Facebook through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. The tip warned there was a high risk to a child and the matter was time-sensitive, according to court documents. The social media network reported that a 13-year-old user was engaging in a sexual discussion and exchanging sexually charged emails with Gibson.

Excerpts of Facebook Messenger chats indicates Gibson picked her up at the library in Sandpoint on the morning of April 14. Nine hours elapse and Gibson allegedly asked the teen if her whereabouts had been drawn into question, according to court documents. An unambiguous past-tense discussion of sexual activity then followed, court records indicate. At one point during the chat, Gibson proclaimed it was the best sex he’s ever had.

The following day, Gibson allegedly sent the teen a nude photo but Gibson was not entirely successful in obscuring his face, a detective’s affidavit said.

Gibson is charged with enticing a child through the internet and sexual exploitation of a child.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for June 5.
