Smith's big day boosts Lums at tourney

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — Riley Smith drove in four runs as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen beat the Spokane Bandits 11-1 in five innings to conclude play at the Clash tournament Sunday at Medical Lake High.

Smith hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and added a two-run triple in the fourth.

Trent Elstad hit a two-run double to cap a four-run first for Coeur d’Alene, and Jake Brown struck out four and allowed two hits over five innings for the Lums.

Earlier, the Lums rallied in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the Walla Walla Bears 8-8.

Coeur d’Alene scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull even at 7. Marcus Manzardo started it with an RBI single, Brown hit a two-run double and Alex Karns delivered a two-run double to tie the game.

In the eighth, Brown’s run-scoring single tied it at 8. Brown and Karns each finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Coeur d’Alene is scheduled to return to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader vs. the Spokane Northstars at Thorco Field.

Prairie ties one,

loses one at tourney

SPOKANE — Clark Zach hit a three-run double in the first inning, but the Prairie Cardinals had to settle for a 4-4 tie with Mt. Spokane after eight innings to conclude play at the Clash tourney at Mt. Spokane High.

Brock Zeller went 3 for 4 for Prairie, and Nick Chase hit a solo homer in the second inning to put the Cardinals up 4-0.

Earlier Sunday, Prairie was held to two hits in a 3-2 loss to Premier at Spokane Falls Community College. Matt Fleming scattered six hits and allowed one earned run in six innings for the Cardinals, and Chase drove in a run with a sixth-inning single.

Prairie (1-6-1) is scheduled to return to action next Monday at home, facing Lewis-Clark to open class AA North Idaho League play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Post Falls High.
