Two Post Falls men accused of stealing the gun used in the murder of Coeur d’Alene Police Sergeant Greg Moore were sentenced last week in U.S. District Court.

Nicholace Cane Thomas, 23, and Donald Eugene Shuck, 33, were sentenced to 24 months in prison followed by three years of supervised probation for possession of a stolen firearm. U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge sentenced Shuck to 200 hours of community service and 5 years of probation for accessory after the fact.

U.S. attorneys said that Shuck and Thomas stole the gun April 24, 2015 when they burglarized a car in the early morning in the Post Falls. Thomas stole a firearm from a vehicle and showed it to Shuck. Thomas later traded the firearm for methamphetamine. Less than two weeks later, on May 5, 2015, Moore was shot and killed with the stolen firearm by Jonathan Renfro. Detectives during the murder investigation, tracked the firearm used by Renfro to Thomas and Shuck, according to court records.

Renfro, 31, was convicted in 2017 for murdering Moore and sentenced to death. He is being held in the maximum security prison in Boise.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Idaho State Police, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Post Falls Police Department, and Idaho Probation and Parole.
