For most athletes, the 2019-2020 high school basketball preseason might as well be light years away at this point in the year.
But not for Priest River rising senior Karah Fink. Her preseason starts this summer.
Priest River’s anchor in the post earned a spot in the 23rd-annual Washington/North Idaho All-State Girls Basketball Games, held at the Hub Sports Center in Liberty Lake (Wash.) on June 22.
The tournament, which attracts the majority of its players from Washington, will be a day chock full of competition between a handful of rising Division I players and some of the region’s best high school girls basketball players.
Fink, a rising senior, averaged 9.3 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game during Priest River’s 1-19 season. A two-way player who excels on the glass, she also notched 53 steals and 24 blocks during the season — both of which were team highs.
The Spartan standout will be surrounded by a bevy of talent during the tournament.
Three of her teammates were their respective league MVPs and three made their all-state tournament teams. The lone graduate on the team — Wapato’s Janealle Sutterlict — will play at Division II St. Martin’s this winter.
Her north Idaho teammates include Post Falls sophomore Dylan Lovett, Kellogg junior Jalen Figeroa, plus 4A Inland Empire League duo Katy Ryan (Lakeland) and Rhea Anderson (Moscow).
Fink and the East 2/3A roster will take on the West 2A/3A team at 5:30 p.m.
