Body found in river near Greensferry Bay

UPDATE: The body found in the Spokane River in Post Falls this afternoon has been identified as 37-year-old Matthew Ryan Wallace, who has been missing since May 31. Police say there are no immediate signs of foul play.

Post Falls -- The Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and the Post Falls Police Department responded to a report of a body in the Spokane River near Greensferry Bay today around 12:20 p.m.

Dive Team members arrived to the area by boat and recovered the victim from the water, according to a news release from the sherrif’s office.

It appears the subject had been in the water for an extended period of time. As a result, investigators were unable to positively identify who the victim is or a cause of death.

Detectives from Kootenai County Sheriff and Post Falls Police have taken over the investigation.
