Deadline to file for city election June 17

Less than one week remains for candidates to file to run for city offices.

Filing for municipal elections closes on June 17. Election Day is Nov. 5.

Three candidates, as of Tuesday morning, had filed for City Council.

Incumbent Councilor Frank Sweeney filed for re-election. Whitefish Planning Board Chairman Steve Qunell and Whitefish Housing Authority Chairman Ben Davis have also filed.

Three Council seats are up for election this year, including seats currently held by Richard Hildner and Katie Williams.

Mayor John Muhlfeld is running in the election hoping to secure his third term as mayor.

As of Tuesday, no other candidates had filed for mayor.

Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg will attend a public rally in Whitefish on Nov. 10 in support of the World War II statue of Jesus on Big Mountain. Rehberg will be at the VFW Post 276 on Baker Avenue at 1 p.m.
