The Clark Fork Valley Cougs Babe Ruth teams are still working on carving out the team’s identity.

Inclimate weather combined with establishing team chemistry is a process Cougs’ manager Brandon Fisher is still working on developing as the team enters the mid-way point of the regular season.

The Cougs, who fell to Libby 17-2 during Friday night’s road game at Libby, still are in the process of finding themselves in the early part of the team schedule.

“We never hung our heads, and we kept playing till the battle was over,” Fisher said. “Our resiliency in itself was a huge moral victory for us.”

The 15-run loss wasn’t the only set back the Cougs experience. Because of various circumstances, the team was forced to call up less experienced players from the Babe Ruth junior team.”

“I would contribute our loss to the fans of Libby showing such phenomenal support to their community, and the atmosphere was overwhelming to our play ability,” Fisher said. “None of our kids have been through such a game that was played in honor of a person fighting for their life to beat Cancer, and the rebuilding of their concession stand that was completely revamped due to people breaking in and destroying most everything placed the odds stacked against us with everything that took place that night.”

The Cougs also had to contend with unfavorable weather that played a significant factor in the game’s outcome, according to Fisher.

“The weather was miserable, and we just couldn’t overcome errors, catching simple fly balls from playing out of position and putting the balls into play,” Fisher said. “We had several players playing out of position and putting balls into play at the plate.”

Fisher stated he is still proud of the effort his team exhibited in the loss.

“I was very proud of the discipline, and the focus to keep fighting,” Fisher said. “Our determination gave us a chance to try to battle back for the win.”
