Kraak tosses no-hitter as Lums sweep Northern Lakes

COEUR d’ALENE — David Kraak pitched a no-hitter in the opener, and the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen went on to sweep the Northern Lakes Mountaineers 10-0 and 6-2 in a class AA North Idaho League American Legion doubleheader Thursday at Thorco Field.
Kraak struck out three and walked one for the Lumbermen in the opener. He was perfect until two out in the fifth, when Cole Strietzel struck out, but reached on a passed ball.
Kraak’s walk came with two out in the sixth.
Alex Karns went 3 for 4, drove in four runs and scored twice for Coeur d’Alene. He hit a two-run triple in the third inning, and added a two-run single in a six-run fourth.
Jackson Scherr went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Jake Brown was 2 for 3 and scored twice, and Quinn Conces drove in two runs.
In the second game, Landon Vergeer and Brandon Gay teamed on a three-hitter for Coeur d’Alene (7-4-1, 4-0 NIL), with nine strikeouts.
Scherr went 2 for 3 and scoerd two runs, and Riley Smith went 2 for 3.
Northern Lakes dropped to 0-5 in the NIL.
The Lums’ alumni game is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Thorco Field.
Coeur d’Alene returns to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Chewelah.

Lewiston tourney
LEWISTON — The Prairie Cardinals lost 12-3 to the Lewis-Clark Twins and beat the Spokane Cannons 5-1 on the first day of the Dwight Church Memorial Tournament at Harris Field.
Matt Fleming struck out nine and scattered five hits in Prairie’s win over the Cannons. Brock Zeller went 3 for 4 for the Cardinals with an RBI and a run scored, and Spencer Zeller went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Against Lewis-Clark, Ethan Miller had two hits for Prairie, and Spencer Zeller, Matt Fleming and Clark Zach each drove in a run.
Prairie (3-7-1) is scheduled to play the Missoula Mavericks today at 5 at Harris Field as the tourney continues.
