HAYDEN CREEK — A 50-year-old Rathdrum woman died on Wednesday afternoon due to injuries sustained in an ATV crash in the Hayden Creek area.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Christina L. Mathews was driving on Forest Service Road 437 at around 1:55 p.m. when she lost control of the ATV. The vehicle went down an embankment, rolling on top of Mathews, a KCSO news release states.

Lifesaving efforts were attempted on scene.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor. Mathews was wearing a helmet.

The KCSO and Northern Lakes Fire District responded.

An investigation continues. — Brian Walker
