- The North Branch Gold Trail 111, near the Lakeview area on the south side of Lake Pend Oreille, will be temporarily closed as Forest Service crews work on trail upgrades. The trail is expected to be closed for up to four weeks as crews replace bridges, repair the trail surface and improve trail drainage features.
- The St. Joe Ranger District has reopened the Upper Landing RV Dump Station about a mile upstream of Avery. The site has been closed for the past three seasons pending the determination of fees. The current fee is $10 per use. Funds
cover maintenance and the cost of hauling waste to St. Maries. The district will reevaluate the site this fall. More information: 208-245-2531.
- The city of Coeur d’Alene’s Urban Forestry Committee is discussing the standardization of tree grates and tree well specifications at this morning’s committee meeting. Codifying a uniform grate and well, City Urban Forester Nick Goodwin said, could simplify homeowners’ replacement efforts.
- A request to remove between five and seven trees on the 2600 block of North Government Way in Coeur d’Alene will be discussed at this morning’s Urban Forestry Committee meeting. The trees, which grow in the parking lot near EntertainMart, represent a sign obstruction, according to the applicant. While the committee may decide the trees’ fates this morning, City Urban Forester Nick Goodwin said a decision of this size might require further review.
