Sandpoint boys soccer head coach Evan McNeley submitted his letter of resignation on Friday, according to an email from Sandpoint High School Athletic Director Kris Knowles.

“We thank Evan for his efforts with our soccer program,” Knowles said. “We will be opening the position next week and hope to find a quality candidate as soon as possible.”

During McNeley’s two-year head coaching stint, the Bulldogs went 20-8-2 and made a semifinal appearance in the 2017 4A State Tournament, in which they lost in a 1-0 shootout against Caldwell.

Under McNeley’s direction, 10 Bulldogs made the all-league team —­ including 2017 4A IEL Player of the Year Tanner Kohal.

McNeley, an Everett, Washington native, played Division I soccer for Seattle University and Oregon State University before kicking off a lengthy professional career.

The experienced soccer veteran had stints with Major Arena Soccer League clubs in Milwaukee, Monterrey La Raza, San Diego and Tacoma.

The next coach of the Bulldogs will have to build on a team that finished 7-6 (4-0 IEL), yet loses six seniors.
