SPIRIT LAKE — A short pursuit Monday night ended in a one-vehicle crash and the suspect fleeing the scene, according to Bonner County Sheriff’s Office officials.

BCSO Undersheriff Ror Lakewold said K9 units were dispatched to the area of Blanchard Cutoff and Clagstone roads in Spirit Lake to attempt to track the suspect after the pursuit and subsequent non-injury crash. A Nixle alert warned residents away at 8:30 p.m. from the area due to heavy police presence stemming from the incident.

A follow-up alert advised police activity ceased about 10:49 p.m. and asked residents to report any suspicious activity in the area.

Lakewold told the Daily Bee on Tuesday that the K9 units were unable to pick up a scent and the suspect could not be located.

The car involved was from Washington state and agencies in that state are potentially dealing with the car and owners, he added.

While the BCSO will continue to follow up on the incident that could result in a charge, Lakewold said the sheriff’s office has no further interest “unless a suspect wants to come in and confess.”
