SPOKANE — Priest River senior forward Karah Fink grabbed two rebounds and recorded one steal in a reserve role for the East 2A/3A team during the 23rd-annual Washington/North Idaho All State Girls Basketball Games on June 22.
Fink and the East mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback, yet fell short to the West 2A/3A team in an 89-84 loss.
The West jumped out in front with a 23-point first quarter and didn’t look back. Despite leading 43-36 at half, the East team scored a whopping 34 points in the fourth quarter to pull within single digits.
Port Angeles junior guard Emilia Long led the way for the West team and won game MVP honors with her 18 point, five rebound, two assist and two steal stat-line.
Clarkston junior guard Ashlynn Wallace led the East with a game-high 21 points in the loss; she was aided by a 10-point, five-rebound, five-steal effort from St. Martin’s commit Janelle Sutterlict.
But the East’s roster was outnumbered from the start.
Clarkston junior AJ Sobotta replaced an injured Lakeland junior Katy Ryan at the last second. Kellogg’s Jaron Figueroa and East Valley (Spokane) senior Brie Holececk didn’t show. Meanwhile, all 14 players assigned to the West suited up on Saturday.
The East was out-rebounded by the bigger — both in stature and in numbers — West roster by a 35-58 margin.
All told, Fink was one of three Idahoans in the game, alongside Post Falls junior guard Dylan Lovett and Moscow senior forward Rhea Anderson. Lovett finished with seven points, three steals, two rebounds and an assist, while Anderson had two rebounds.
