Why is it wrong to ask our officials questions?
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 5 years, 6 months AGO
Relative to my questions at the June 25 Bonner County commissioners meeting, I didn’t realize I couldn’t ask questions, that I could only make a statement.
As taxpaying citizens, we deserve to know the truth, and the commissioners to be transparent in their dealings with our money. Jeff Connolly commented that “everyone knows what the deal is” regarding my questions about Dave Schuck. Well, Jeff, no they don’t, and that’s why I was asking questions.
So, I would still like an answer to the following question:
Regardless of Commissioner Dan McDonald and Dave Schuck’s relationship, and regardless of whether Schuck is the full-time or part-time airport manager, it seems to me that it is a conflict of interest for Dave Schuck to be the airport manager and be working full-time at Quest. And just because Schuck has “always” been the airport’s business manager, doesn’t make it right, or explain away or justify this apparent conflict of interest.
Conflict of interest — a situation in which a person is in a position to derive personal benefit from actions or decisions made in their official capacity.
Would it not seem to you that as a full-time employee of Quest, Dave Schuck could have a conflict of interest regarding decisions he makes as the airport manager that would pertain to Quest?
I didn’t realize as a county taxpayer, I would be thrown out of a meeting because I wanted an explanation to a situation that is concerning and smells of unethical behavior.
Oh, and thank you, Mr. McDonald for being so professional.

P.S. Yes, I know you are in litigation with Jim Keiser. And no, I didn’t want any confidential information regarding his situation. However, I hope you didn’t mess up and now the taxpayers have to pay a settlement because of your lack of foresight.
