MERIDIAN — The message was simple from Timberlake coach Mike Menti before Friday’s loser-out game.

“Just have some fun.”

And while it didn’t end the way the Tigers might have liked, fun they had.

Jacob James had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Timberlake, which was eliminated from the state 3A tournament by Parma 58-47 on Friday afternoon at Meridian High.

“Parma’s a great team,” Menti said. “They finished second in their league, and came into this tournament 21-4, and we gave them everything they could handle. It was good for our boys to do that.”

Timberlake trailed 25-23 at halftime.

“I mostly told them to just play and have some fun,” Menti said. “I told the guys to relax, take great shots and play Tiger basketball.”

Timberlake finishes 9-15.

“It was a great year, but we had a hard schedule with playing all of the 4A IEL (Inland Empire League) teams,” Menti said. “We walked into state 9-14 and didn’t worry about the schedule. We were battle tested, and we played three great halves of basketball. Our guys played with a lot of grit.”

Braydon Jensen and Jared Nielsen scored 17 points each for Parma (21-5), which faces Kellogg in the consolation championship game today.
