DALTON: Recall to control traffic

This letter is about information on the Recall of the Mayor and City Council all residents should know. It should not be this difficult for a small, rural town like Dalton Gardens to request that the Mayor and City Council protect the interests of the people they serve. This is evidenced by the City Council’s decision on the 16th Street property, this issue inevitably landed in court, where it should have been in the first place. They did not bring the subdivision before the P&Z Committee, or hold a public meeting on it.

It seems Dalton Gardens has become a “short cut” for those traveling through the area. The Mayor and Council have worked with the City Engineers to receive federal dollars to reconstruct 4th street. There will be conditions with this money such as curbs, sidewalks, perhaps street lights, and other requirements. This will impact our rural lifestyle and likely increase traffic flow and more speeding drivers.

We need to be pro-active on these matters. Dalton Gardens does not have a police force like Coeur d’Alene. We rely on the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department; they are spread thin and cannot guarantee coverage. There is a way for all of the residents of Dalton Gardens to have a voice in the process of controlling/calming our traffic. However, the Mayor and City Council do not seem to be interested in sharing this process. We have an opportunity to do something about this now by voting For Recalling of the Mayor and Council Members for the City of Dalton Gardens.
