COEUR d’ALENE — Move over, Jimmy Fallon — "The Tonight Show" starring North Idaho Young Life is coming to Coeur d'Alene on Thursday.
"It will be a lot like a Johnny Carson-type show," North Idaho Young Life area director Molly Starch said Monday. "It will be a combo of Young Life fun and also the impact we have on kids."
North Idaho Young Life is a nonprofit that works to lift up kids of all backgrounds and walks of life. It hosts different events, outings, campouts and other activities throughout the year where kids can be kids and know there are people out there who want to help them succeed in life.
It's a part of Young Life, an international Christian ministry that was founded in 1941 and now impacts more than 2 million kids worldwide. Locally, North Idaho Young Life impacts 2,500 kids in 12 North Idaho schools with six clubs led by 70 volunteers: All-City Wyldlife Club for middle school students (held at Canfield Middle School); Young Life Clubs for high school students at Post Falls, Lake City, Coeur d'Alene and Lakeland high schools; Young Lives Club for teen moms; and Young Life College, a small group for college-age kids.
"Kids are literally hurting so much out there and most of them do not have enough of a support system," Starch said. "Sometimes they don't get the support they need from the home front and they need adults to let them know they’re important."
The North Idaho Young Life "Tonight Show" will be an evening of entertainment as well as testimony at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn. Guests can share in the enjoyment and get a glimpse into how Young Life can change a young person's life. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased at www.northidaho.younglife.org.
"Every kid is welcome," Starch said. "We want them to have a place where they can be accepted and loved."
