Priest River senior Robbie Anselmo signed to play football for Division III Lewis-Clark Valley Loggers on Wednesday.

“I’m excited to continue to play football,” Anselmo said. “[Lewis-Clark Valley] seemed like the right fit for me, and it was close to home.”

Anselmo is currently one of 27 freshmen listed on the Loggers’ roster, which includes athletes from five different states — the majority of which come from nearby Nampa and Weiser, ID.

Right now, he is listed as a quarterback, running back and defensive back, but this versatility is common for Lewis-Clark Valley’s athletes, whose players usually play several different positions.

“They told me I could play multiple positions throughout the year and I’d probably change positions from week-to-week,” Anselmo said. “And they said that last year, everyone started at least one game. So it’d be cool to go in and play as a freshman, which at most colleges, doesn’t really happen.”

A three-sport athlete, Anselmo has also excelled in basketball and track during his Priest River atheltic career. As a dual-threat quarterback, running back and defensive back, Anselmo earned All-Intermountain League second-team honors for his work at running back and safety last fall.

This past semester, Anselmo also earned a 4.0 G.P.A.

And although the setting will change, Anselmo will continue his pursuit of balancing excellence both on and off the field next year as he pursues a degree in education.

“It’s tought to maintain,” Anselmo said. “I just have to keep my focus and have those two come first, and tune out all my other distractions.”

Lewis-Clark Valley Football is the lone NCAA Division III football program in Idaho. Although the team is not affiliated with a specific conference, the Loggers schedules regional competition — such as Central Sound or Eastside Community Colleges — or JV squads from the likes of Whitworth and George Fox Universities.
