SANDPOINT — Fat Tuesday has given way to Ash Wednesday, which leads us right into today and a weekend of fun like no other.

Tonight, the Oscar-nominated foreign film ‘Shoplifters’ starts its 4-day run at the Panida. Today is also my handsome son Daniel Gunter’s birthday — happy 34th, buddy! Friday brings us another Contra Dance at Community Hall, Saturday is packed with live music, including the Wow Wows at MickDuff’s Beer Hall and, on Sunday, Umphrey’s McGee takes the stage at The Hive.

Wednesday evening features finger style guitar master Terry Robb in concert at DiLuna’s, as well as a must-attend session of The Conversation, which will cover the ins and outs of preparing for an artist exhibition at Ivano’s Ristorante.

Finally, the superb play ‘Good Neighbors’ runs this Fri.-Sun. for its final weekend at the Pend Oreille Playhouse, in Newport, Wash.

‘Shoplifters’

The Final Foreign film in the Panida’s Fall/Winter Foreign Film Series has been given the Oscar Nomination nod.

Shoplifters delves into the lives of a Japanese couple stuck with part-time jobs and little income. Both the couple and their children turn to shoplifting to make ends meet. This routine they have fallen into gets turned on its head when they invite a troubled young girl into their world.
