The Coeur d’Alene Chamber Music Society will pay tribute to the work by Family Promise of North Idaho with a concert Sunday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene.

The concert will open with CdABrass. Their program will include “Farandole” by Georges Bizet. Next, they will feature one of their trumpeters, Phil Aarhus, soloing in the Canadian Brass’s arrangement of “A Closer Walk With Thee.” Up next is an arrangement of the Scottish tune “Loch Lomond.” The quintet will end its part of the concert with a collection of “Sea Songs.”

Next up, the Flutonics (a flute ensemble) will be performing three pieces. They will be opening with Gary Schocker’s “Celestial Bodies.” That will be followed by a Beethoven “Bagatelle” and J.S. Bach’s “Brandenberg Concerto No. 3.”

The third act, Diana Clemons, will be performing with the Chamber Music Society for the first time. Diana is a three-time recipient of an Idaho Commission on the Arts grant. She will be performing two movements from one of the two concertos that were the object of her most recent grant. Unique to her concertos are large sections of improvisation.

Gluteus Saximus (a saxophone quartet) will lighten things up a bit with their three selections. They will open with Adrienne Albert’s “Mirror Images,” followed by “Mancini Digs That Mamabo,” by Rick Hirsch, and finishing with “Looney Tunes for Saxophone Quartet” by Bill Holcombe.

The Coeur d’Alene Chamber Music Society welcomes the Northwest Brass. They will be performing an interesting variety of brass quintet music with an international flair. Their selections include “Fanfare to La Peri,” “Impressions of a Parade,” and “Die Bankelsangerlieder.”

The Chamber Music Society likes to pay tribute to a local charity at each concert.

This concert’s charity is Family Promise of North Idaho. Family Promise shelters families with children. They give single mothers, single fathers and couples with children a safe place to get back on their feet. The Day Center assures that families have a place to be each day, to work toward sustainability with the aid of their case manager. Powered by extensive volunteerism, Family Promise assures that families are provided access to transportation, employment, education, child care, health care and benefits that will lead to housing. They shelter the families in their program through a network of congregations for the overnight stay. Family Promise is 550 volunteers strong, and can host a family for up to 90 days. Family Promise is supported by the community businesses, the United Way, Panhandle Wealth and Trust Management, and individual donors.

The Coeur d’Alene Chamber Music Society was created to give local musicians a chance to perform chamber music. The hope is that these concerts will be the beginning of a continues series of opportunities for musicians to put together a small ensemble and have a place to perform.
