DALTON: Another side of story
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 10 months AGO
While Mr. Streeter feels disinformation is being disseminated by proponents of the Dalton recall effort, there are always two sides to every story. Protagoras first put that thought forward many years ago. Although not as funny as Mark Twain, it is still just as true today as it was then.
Our mayor and councilmembers seem to have a preclusion toward creating a more urban Dalton. More than a year ago, the city applied for a grant to improve city roads. This grant was applied for, received and a proposal plan developed before the citizens were even notified. Now that the grant and its requirements are public knowledge, the same citizens questioning the handling of the Streeter property recognize it is happening again with proposed changes to Fourth Street. Why were the citizens of Dalton Gardens not given the opportunity to support or not these upgrades before the city accepted the grant?
While three new houses on the Streeters’ 4 acres will not change the rural feeling of Dalton, having a mayor and a City Council who are motivated toward this type of change will eventually lead to a negative and permanent impact on our small town. If you feel the Streeters’ rights over the citizens of Dalton should be protected, look forward to possible sidewalks, grassy swales and streetlights on Fourth Street along with the turn lanes and bike paths provided by the grant, you will not understand why this recall is supported by not just whiney-butt newcomers, but also neighbors of long standing.
