A 75-year-old Athol woman charged with vehicular manslaughter was released from jail Thursday after paying a $5,000 bond.

Jeanne F. Wolcott was arrested on a warrant stemming from a head-on crash more than a year ago on Highway 54 east of Athol that police say resulted in the death of 68-year-old Lawana Holden of Athol.

According to police, Wolcott was driving a Ford Edge eastbound on the westbound shoulder in a snow storm Feb. 23, 2018, when her car collided with a westbound Chevrolet Equinox driven by Holden.

Holden died five days later at Kootenai Health from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

State police collected witness reports and spoke to both Wolcott and Holden at the scene of the collision.

Both women recalled seeing headlights in front of them before colliding.

Trooper Austin Rosedale arrived at the crash site after 7 p.m.

“It was dark, snowing heavily, with snow completely covering the road,” Rosedale wrote in his report. “Due to the snow on the roadway, no painted road lines or road evidence from the crash could be seen.”

When he arrived, both cars were stopped in the westbound lane and had crushed front ends.

Rosedale’s investigation showed that Wolcott was driving in the wrong lane in the heavy snow when the collision occurred.

Attempts last year to arrest Wolcott were unsuccessful because she was out of state, according to court records. A warrant was issued earlier this year.

Wolcott’s next hearing is April 1 in Coeur d’Alene.
