ANNIVERSARY
Archie and Lorraine McGregor
60th Anniversary
Archie and Lorraine McGregor, longtime residents and active community members of Coeur d’Alene, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 7, 2019, with a memory filled weekend hosted by their five children.
Upon returning from a tour in the U.S. Navy, Archie E. McGregor Jr. met Lorraine Cleveland while working next door to each other. They were married on Feb. 7, 1959, in Veradale, Wash., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The McGregors made their home in Coeur d’Alene, where they raised their five children and filled it with love, laughter and memories.
Archie served as president for several civic organizations including the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees and the Kootenai Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. He was in business with his father at Lakeview Court and Grocery, the motel, convenience and toy store located across from the city park and beach for more than 20 years. After the business was sold in 1978, he went to work for Albertsons as store manager, and Lorraine joined Coldwell Banker as a Realtor. In 1986, they moved to St. Maries where they spent 30 years as owners of Archie’s IGA. They moved back to Coeur d’Alene in retirement and are enjoying time with family, friends, traveling and local activities.
Events for the anniversary weekend included a special dinner at Beverly’s with their children, Tammy Tracy (Greg) Archie III (Shelley) Randy, Bill (Le Ann) and Brian (Jackie.) Also in attendance were their 10 grandchildren and spouses, and two great-grandchildren. An open house in the Hagadone Suite with extended family was filled with 60 years of memories and stories. More than 40 family members traveled from the surrounding area, as well as New York, Virginia, Chicago, Aspen and Las Vegas to help them celebrate and recognize this milestone!
MILESTONE BIRTHDAY
Jim Connell
90th Birthday
Major Jim Connell will celebrate his 90th birthday on March 18, 2019. Jim arrived in the Inland Pacific Northwest in 1952, upon returning from Korea. Jim met and married his charming bride of 62 years, Pat Reilly. The couple raised four sons and two daughters and now have eight grandchildren. The couple will welcome their sixth great-grandchild next month and their seventh in October.
Jim was raised with two siblings and 13 first cousins. He is the sole survivor. Jim is the patriarch of the Connell/Ritchie family of St. Louis, Mo. Jim and Pat’s extended family is 33, residing in six states.
Jim is a combat veteran of both the Korean and Vienam conflicts. More important, is that Jim spent several years in a key position during the Cold War. Nuclear deterrence has kept us out of nuclear war for decades.
Beyond family, Jim’s greatest passion is the U.S. Constitution, which he is determined to preserve, at all costs. He serves as vice president of the North Idaho Pachyderm Club. As an active member of St. Pius X Parrish, he serves as a Lecter and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim is an active member of the Military Officers Association of America, Spokane Chapter. Jim is a weekly shooter at the Coeur d’Alene Rifle and Pistol Club.
A reasonable number of Jim and Pat’s extended family will gather to help celebrate! Jim and Pat will also celebrate at the annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner at St. Thomas Center. On Monday, Jim and Pat will count their blessings; it will take all day.
