MOSES LAKE - After a Moses Lake man was cited over the weekend for driving around 90 miles per hour on West Broadway Avenue, reportedly in an attempt to bring a sick infant quickly to the hospital, Moses Lake Police Chief Kevin Fuhr has a safety tip for the public: don’t do that.

“It’s not safe and it’s not smart,” Fuhr said. “If you have a medical emergency, call 911, but you don’t have the authority to drive 90 miles an hour down a busy road.”

The driver, an unnamed 34-year-old Moses Lake resident, was headed to Samaritan Hospital with his wife and infant in the car, according to police reports, almost causing a collision at the intersection of West Broadway Avenue and West Third Avenue and placing at least three other vehicles in “extreme danger.”

When police stopped the vehicle, the driver informed responding officers that the infant was “shaking,” though police indicate the child was found to be fine. The driver and his family were escorted to Samaritan, where he was placed into custody while his wife sought treatment for the child, according to police reports.

Though the driver was released shortly thereafter, he was cited for reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and issued an infraction.

“An ambulance could have been to their home in ten minutes,” Fuhr said. “An officer would have been at their house in five minutes. Instead, this guy endangered his family and the public and is now facing serious criminal charges.”
