Coeur d’Alene High fundraiser auction set for April 6
Deadline is March 22 to purchase tickets for the Viking Country Auction, a fundraiser for Coeur d’Alene High athletics, scheduled for April 6 at 5 p.m. at Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn.
The event includes a steak and crab dinner, and a silent and live auction, and a performance by the Kelly Hughes Band.
Cost is $50 per ticket, or $400 for a table of eight. Tickets can be purchased at chsvikingboosters.com

Board gives Idaho OK
to move on new arena
MOSCOW — The Idaho State Board of Education on Thursday unanimously approved the University of Idaho’s request to proceed with the bidding and construction phase of the signature 4,200-seat capacity Idaho Central Credit Union Arena project, contingent upon approval by the SBOE executive director after consultation with the new president for the University of Idaho, once named by the board.
The project will go out for bid and the school hopes to break ground soon, with building completion expected in the fall of 2021.
Idaho Central Credit Union is the naming sponsor of the arena, having donated $10 million to the project. Other key donations of $2.5 million sponsor the practice gym and the performance floor.
Harrison, who helped NIC to nationals in 1997, dies of heart attack
Chris Harrison, an undersized 6-foot-4 center on the North Idaho College men’s basketball team that finished fourth at the NJCAA tournament in 1997, died Wednesday of a heart attack.
Harrison, nicknamed “Big Daddy,” was 42. He was a youth basketball coach in western Washington.
After NIC, Harrison went on to play at Iona and then at Lewis-Clark State.
Clarke finalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year
ATLANTA — Gonzaga junior forward Brandon Clarke was named one of four finalists for the 2019 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday.
The finalists include Clarke, De’Andre Hunter (Virginia), Matisse Thybulle (Washington) and Zion Williamson (Duke).

promoted to DC at Boise State
BOISE — Boise State football coach Bryan Harsin announced the hiring of Zac Alley as the Broncos’ inside linebackers coach on Thursday.
Harsin also announced the promotions of Jeff Schmedding to defensive coordinator, and Spencer Danielson to co-defensive coordinator.
Alley spent the previous four years (2015-18) as a graduate assistant at Clemson, his alma mater.
Schmedding, entering his first season as the Broncos’ outside linebackers coach, spent the previous four seasons (2015-18) as defensive coordinator at Eastern Washington.
NIC softball team moves
home games due to snow
North Idaho College, previously scheduled to open Northwest Athletic Conference play at home this weekend, postponed doubleheaders against Walla Walla today and Big Bend on Saturday due to snow.
The Walla Walla games have been rescheduled for March 25 at 2 p.m., with the Big Bend games on March 27, also at 2.
Due to snow, Memorial Field will not be ready for a fourth straight year, and the Cardinals will play all of their scheduled home games at Post Falls High.
NIC is scheduled to face Columbia Basin on Friday, March 22 at Post Falls in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
