Fast Five: Alesha Blackwolf
Devin Weeks Staff Writer | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 5 years, 10 months AGO
Meet Alesha Blackwolf, a Coeur d'Alene mom and yoga instructor who couldn't be happier with the beauty and recreation of her city.
Tell us about yourself
Generation: Gen X.
Career and community involvement:
My husband and I lead sessions of DreamTime Sound Healing, which is a soundscape meditation with live unique ethereal instruments that raise the vibration of the participants. This has had an incredibly beautiful impact on our community along with our Summer SoulShine Beach Gathering we hold with other amazing healers and the yoga classes I teach.
Parental status: Proud Sorensen mama of my 10-year-old son, Casch, and my sweet 3-year-old princess, Zayta.
1. What is your favorite yoga pose?
Maksikanagasana, AKA Dragonfly Pose. Not only is this pose a mind-boggling looker, it takes a great amount of strength, flexibility and mindful awareness to pull it off. Though, it is the way I feel in this pose that makes it my favorite, to embody the dragon and fly!
2. How do you describe your relationship with the universe?
My connection with the universe has me placed as a Christian Mystic Priestess, Star Seed, Child of the Earth and Sun, which is as best as I can describe it. I follow the path of Divine Love and my offerings are of this cosmic consciousness. In my carbon body, I have human struggles, like any other, and find great comfort and understanding from tuning into the rhythms, cycles and greatness that is so tangible in nature. It is in the marriage of earth and spirit that I find mastery, grace and brilliance.
3. Is yoga for everybody? Why or why not?
Absolutely! To be clear, most people know yoga as a physical exercise. That is only one branch in a large tree of what yoga is. Even with physical yoga, known as Asana, it is beneficial for the most competitive athlete to someone in a wheelchair, or even bed-bound. The practice of yoga meets you where you are. Yoga is about exploring your strengths, limits, imbalances and learning to work with these as they currently exist. It is always about the practice, never about the perfection. It also helps us to remember our radiance and wholeness, and that we are not outside the perfection of creation.
4. What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
I have to push through shyness and overwhelming nerves every time I stand before a group of people, which I do almost daily between leading sound journeys and teaching yoga. I have a funny trick I use to help me cope. I have everyone come very close in to me and I pretend all these people are my loving friends. After the class/session, I am no longer pretending, I believe they all are!
5. If you had to eat one food every day for a month, what would it be?
I could eat Häagen Dazs chocolate peanut butter ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner, EASY for a month every day. Should I? No! LOL, but I could.
