Mar. 17, 1969 — McCRUM ON DEAN’S LIST

The College of Medical Arts at Idaho State University announces that Patrick McCrum, Sandpoint, is among students in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology whose outstanding achievement in the first semester of 1968-69 placed him on the Dean’s list.

LINDA PLASTER IS JR. DIRECTOR

At Tuesday’s meeting of Sandpoint Junior Woman’s Club, it was announced that Mrs. Mike Plaster is appointed 3rd Dist. junior director.

It was reported that Mrs. T.A. Park, Mrs. James Tinsman, Mrs. Donald Rench and Mrs. Les Rogers are canvassing the business district for the Heart Fund drive. Mrs. Wesley Isbell won the cake. Hostesses Mrs. Dale Lange and Mrs. Steve Tillberg served dessert, tea and coffee.

WARD’S BULLDOGS HAD BEST OFFENSE

Coach Duane Ward’s high-powered offense and 41 percent shooting by his starting five made the SHS basketball team the best offensive club in the Inland Empire League this season. The Bulldogs topped the league in total points with 677 and had four players in the top 20 scorers: Chris Clark, 4th place, averaging 14.8 points per contest; Jack Parkins, 8th best, with 13.4; Scott Wyatt, 18th with 10.5; and Craig Leckner, 20th at 9.8. Wyatt also had the league’s best field goal percentage, at 48.2 percent.

Mar. 17, 1919 — CITY BREVITIES

A. Lindquist, proprietor of the Dover pool hall, has just completed some extensive improvements at his popular place of amusement.

The Sandpoint canteen worked hard this week. Tuesday there were two G.N. trains each carrying 1000 men. Every day this week there have been N.P. coaches carrying casualties.

JOHN MOES SHOWN CLEMENCY

John Moes, a Newport, Idaho rancher, who was sentenced to 18 months at McNeil’s island last June for violating the espionage act, was granted executive clemency by the president last week in an executive order that commuted sentences of 53 prisoners in various parts of the country.

U.S. Attorney J.L. McClear said at the time of Moes’ conviction that he was firmly convinced an injustice was being done.

IT WAS A ‘’DUD”

The commander of the 146th recently described how from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Nov. 8 at Montigny a terrific artillery duel raged as each side sought to silence the guns of the other. During this engagement a German “210” shell struck practically under the muzzles of the guns of Battery C, but fortunately proved to be a “dud.” Had it exploded, it would have probably annihilated the Sandpoint Company.
