Joyce Ann Dougall, 83

Joyce Ann Dougall, age 83, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2019, at the Village at Orchard Ridge, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born May 24, 1935, to Eugene and Mildred (Bloomfield) Stott, in Coeur d’Alene. Joyce grew up in Carlin Bay and attended a one-room schoolhouse. She was the last surviving “Stott-Carlin Kidd.” She graduated from Harrison High School, North Idaho College and Lewis and Clark College, where she earned more than one college degree, including her CPA. She married Berl Dougall Sr. in 1960 and had four children: Berl E. Dougall Jr., Tracy A. Dougall, Lani K. Hotchkiss and Leslie K. Dougall.

Joyce lived and worked in the Coeur d’Alene area her entire life and helped her parents run the Carlin Bay Store and Marina from the time she was a preteen until she was 18 and she started college. Joyce worked at the Kootenai County courthouse while she put herself through college. She usually worked more than one job because she was a single parent, working at Leader Printing Company as a “Girl Friday,” where she did everything in the company. She also worked for an upholstery shop in mid-town Coeur d’Alene, where she learned to upholster furniture. She did this as a second job for 10 years, working part-time for H&R Block and as a CPA for 30 years. In 1972, Joyce was hired at Interstate Plastics, starting out as a secretary and moved up to general manager and retired from Interstate Plastics at age 78.

She belonged to several organizations over the years. She was the president of Women’s Accounting of America, NW Chapter and donated money to public television, North Idaho College, and Lewis and Clark College on a regular basis. She volunteered her time and bookkeeping skills for Art on the Green for about five years.

Joyce was a caretaker at heart and took care of many people over the years that needed help. This included giving people money and or a place to live, etc. She loved all animals and it wasn’t uncommon for her home to be filled with the people and pets that she loved. Her hobbies included gardening and growing flowers, quilting and sewing, but most of all, she enjoyed her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Mildred Stott; her brothers, Jerald, Tom and Deny Stott; and her daughter, Lani Hotchkiss. Survivors include her children, along with their spouses, Berl, Tracy, Connie, Leslie and Tina Dougall; grandchildren, Terry Dougall, Alayne Schneider, Michael Dougall, Tracy (LT) Dougall, Sarah Permenter and Christy Lux; step-grandchildren, Angle Berlin, Jeremy Oste, Mandi Hoffey, Cody Beardsley, Kyle Fancher and Ashley Oswald; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.
