Students honored at science, engineering fair

Local students in grades fifth through seventh garnered top awards at the Montana Tech Regional Science and Engineering fair held March 12 in Butte.

Kalispell Middle School seventh-grader Dyson Linden, who placed in the top 10, received an all-expenses-paid, five-day trip to the Montana Learning Center in Helena. He also received a special awards from Broadcom MASTERS.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks special awards went to: Amanda Leonard, a Bigfork Elementary School fifth-grader; Elania Dorr, a Glacier Gateway Elementary fifth-grader; and Keanu Ng, a Kalispell Middle School seventh-grader.

Glacier Gateway Elementary fifth-grader Kira Shanks received the Dr. Wilbur Held Memorial award.

Local results are as follows:

Gold Medal

Fifth grade

- Bigfork Elementary: Amanda Leonard, Zachary Flink and Ione Plummer.

- Glacier Gateway Elementary: Elaina Dorr and Aubrey Smith.

- Hedges Elementary: Thomas Bertram, Fenton Liebe-Cohen and Silas Young.

- Stillwater Christian School: Emma Anderson and Devon Hammond.

Seventh grade

Kalispell Middle School: Dyson Linden.

Silver Medal

Fifth grade

- Bigfork Elementary: Michael Furshong and Nicolas Gustavson.

- Glacier Gateway: Elementary Kira Shanks

Sixth grade

- Columbia Falls Jr. High: Boone Shanks.

Bronze Medal

Fifth grade

- Glacier Gateway Elementary School: Merell Cooley and Findley Dezzani.

Seventh grade

- Trinity Lutheran School: Belle Schwartz, Katy Bitney, Rylee Glimm and Laynee Vessar.

- Kalispell Middle School: Keanu Ng.
