SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man awaiting sentencing for statutory rape is accused of raping another woman in Priest River earlier this month.

Joshua Ray Bigelow-Geyer was arrested after the alleged victim in the Priest River case told police she awoke to him having sex with her on Monday, which led to a confrontation in which Bigelow-Geyer was forced from his home at gunpoint, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Bigelow-Geyer, 20, made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Tuesday via video link with the county jail, court records show. A public defender was appointed to represent him and an order was entered forbidding him from having contact with the alleged victim. Bail information was not immediately available.

Priest River Police were summoned to a residence off U.S. Highway 2 after receiving the rape report. Bigelow-Geyer allegedly boasted spitefully about having sex with the alleged victim to an ex-girlfriend at the home, resulting in a confrontation in which another resident of the home felt sufficiently threatened to brandish a .22-caliber pistol at Bigelow-Geyer, the affidavit said. Sandpoint Police arrested Bigelow-Geyer at a grocery store. Bigelow-Geyer told investigators his ex-girlfriend encouraged him to have sex with the woman, but he felt conflicted and only kissed her, the affidavit said.

A rape examination of the alleged victim was conducted and clothing was seized as evidence in the case, court records show. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for March 27.

A criminal complaint states the alleged victim’s resistance was overcome by intoxication or unconsciousness.

Bigelow-Geyer was charged with engaging in lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor and statutory rape involving a 13-year-old girl in 2016. The lewd conduct charge was dismissed in exchange for an Alford plea to the rape charge, court records show.

Under the terms of the plea, Bigelow-Geyer admits no culpability but concedes he could be convicted if the matter went before a jury.
