The fifth annual Columbia Basin Eco-Gardening Symposium promises to offer a sensational diversity of speakers, resource exhibitors, door prizes and food. The event takes place Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Technical Skills Center at 900 Yonezawa Blvd. in Moses Lake. It is co-sponsored by the Grant County Conservation District and the Grant-Adams Master Gardener Foundation.

There will be three dynamic speakers with impeccable credentials. The first speaker is Kurt Braunwart, the managing owner of ProGene Plant Research, based in Othello. The company focuses on developing varieties specifically for bio cover crop uses.

Kurt will discuss what his company has learned about the many benefits of using cover crops and the way they can help home gardeners when adding compost, manures, or other organic materials to their gardens. Braunwart’s presentation will explain the best cover crop types to use, plant times and the economics to build better soil for gardening.

The topics and descriptions of the other speakers will follow in the coming weeks preceding the event.
