COEUR d'ALENE — A National Vietnam War Veterans Day celebration will be held on Friday at noon at the Veterans Memorial Plaza at McEuen Park.

Men and women who served in any capacity between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, and their families will be honored. About 9 million Americans — roughly 7 million living today — served during that period.

The community is encouraged to attend the event organized by the Lt. George Farragut Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution in Coeur d'Alene.

In case of rain or snow the event will take place in the park's adjacent pavilion. There will only be 100 chairs, so attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs.

A wreath ceremony will also honor those veterans who have passed, were prisoners of war or missing in action.

If you park in the McEuen lot, you will need to obtain a ticket from a kiosk to put on the dash of your vehicle. If you enter two hours, your ticket will indicate "no charge."

Vietnam Veterans Day was proclaimed in 2012 and commemorations were encouraged across the country.
