'These Shining Lives' free to the public from NIC Theatre

The North Idaho College Theatre Department presents “These Shining Lives,” by Melanie Marnich at 7:30 p.m., April 11-13 and April 18-20, at Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center on NIC’s main campus.

“These Shining Lives” is based on true events, but is more like a theatrical poem rather than a documentary. This is the story of women working in the 1920s and 1930s, and how the company they work for knowingly compromised their health. The company treats them as expendable, simply hiring new women as the current workers become sick. What makes the play most compelling is that it explores the relationships between the women and the courage of one in particular, Catherine Donahue, as they work not only to survive, but to live with integrity.

“This is a truly beautiful, funny, moving play with a unique style of storytelling,” said Joe Jacoby, NIC Theatre instructor and play director.

The cast includes Scouten Christensen, Sam Chambers, Cassidy Tidwell, Lauren Moon, Liz Fitzwater, Gavin Reasor, Sebastian Goetz, Anthony Kirby, Lillian Maria-Zeagler, Sheleena Braid and Libby McCaslin.

The play is free and open to the public but there will be no late seating. Please do not bring infants.
