Additional bones have been found on Tubbs Hill in downtown Coeur d’Alene.

A hiker found a bone Thursday that police believe is a human femur, and bones found today appear to be another femur and part of a pelvic bone.

Coeur d’Alene Police Capt. Dave Hagar said the bones are buried and are being unearthed in a painstaking process.

“They are slowly brushing the dirt away to remove them from the ground,” Hagar said. “We expect to be out here most of the weekend.”

There may be more bones, Hagar said. While experts have not confirmed the bones are human, they are believed to be.

The excavation is taking place in a remote part of the more than 120 acres comprising Tubbs Hill.

Hagar said East Side Fire District is helping transport personnel to the site with its fire boat.

The police department is doing its best to open as much of the popular recreation spot to residents while the excavation continues this weekend.

“We would appreciate it if people would stay toward the east side of Tubbs,” Hagar said.
