We can all

breathe easy

A recent letter writer seeks reassurance that CO2 levels will not reach life threatening concentrations. At the same time he denies the scientifically-proven fact that we do not live in a closed system which would prevent gases from leaving our atmosphere.

But our earth is not surrounded by a retaining wall or bubble, and CO2 cannot and will not reach extinction-level proportions. That is a ridiculous myth being propagated by left-wing socialists for purely political purposes. They want to regulate our use of fossil fuels so they can regulate our freedom of movement. It’s all about big government being able to control the people.

Mass extinction events in the past are not, contrary to the letter writer’s misguided claim, all “associated with serious disruptions of the carbon cycle.” The fact is scientists still do not know what caused any of the mass extinction events, including that of the Permian period. Serious scientists (those who are not out to win political favoritism) lean strongly toward the asteroid theory or even worldwide flooding, diseases, or inter-species predation, among other theories. But no serious scientist would say that we are headed for the “first human-caused mass extinction.” That theory belongs in the political wardrobe of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other extreme socialists.

We can all breathe easy at night knowing that our atmosphere will not suffocate us, even if we continue to drive our cars and trucks as usual.
