MOSES LAKE — Got some household hazardous waste that you want to get rid of? You might want to mark May 4 on your calendar in that case, because there will be an opportunity in Moses Lake to get rid of that waste free of charge.

The event, organized by Grant County Solid Waste and the state Department of Ecology for Grant County residents only, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grant County Road District No. 2’s shop, 12171 Rd. 3 NE.

The following items will be accepted: oil-based paints, oil stains, adhesives, rechargeable batteries, lithium batteries, aerosols, paint thinners, household cleaners, corrosives, pesticides, herbicides, photo chemicals, pool/spa chemicals, old gasoline, road flares, fire extinguishers, all mercury-containing lights (fluorescent bulbs/tubes, CFLs, HIDs – maximum of 10 lights per person), mercury thermometers and thermostats, antifreeze, brake fluid and waste oil if contaminated with brake fluid, brake cleaner, antifreeze, solvents, carburetor cleaner, water, or degreasers.

The following items will not be accepted: latex paint (water-based paints and stain), elemental mercury, used oil, auto batteries, cylinders, alkaline batteries, propane tanks, sharps, ammunition, medications, explosives, empty containers, agricultural waste, or commercial waste.
