LEWISTON — Ashley Kaufman drove in four runs at the plate and struck out six in the circle for Lake City in a 17-2 and 17-7 sweep of the Lewiston Bengals at Airport Park on Wednesday.

“We were able to jump on Lewiston early in both games with runs in the first innings of both,” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “AK (Kaufman) threw the ball extremely well and kept them off balance most of the day. We had a few unearned runs that I would like to see cleaned up, but overall I am pleased with the lineup from top to bottom.”

Olivia Zufelt drove in six runs on the day for Lake City (22-0, 12-0 5A IEL), which hosts Sandpoint on Friday.

Lewiston is 8-7, 3-9.

LEWISTON — The Bengals clinched the second seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament with a sweep of the Timberwolves in the Inland Empire League finale for both at Church Field.

“We played a lot of different guys and gave some guys chances to pitch,” said Lake City coach Paul Manzardo, who lost seniors Bennett Cunningham and Conner Conigliaro to knee injuries for the season earlier this week. “We went down there trying to win two games and it didn’t work out that way. We’re a young group, and losing both Bennett and Connor hurts because they’ve given so much to Lake City baseball and feel bad they can’t finish the season.”

Lake City (7-11, 4-8 5A IEL) will play at Lewiston (11-7, 6-6) in the first round of regionals on Monday at 4 p.m.
