Meet Jason Zareski, a Pacific Northwest native who has lived in Coeur d'Alene for more than 30 years. Jason has been a DJ for more than 23 of those years.

Generation: I would describe myself as an ’80s/’90s kid.

Career and community involvement: I'm currently a resident DJ at Mik's, making people dance in Coeur d'Alene since 1997. I am also an active member in the community working with local charity events and fundraisers.

1. Why and when did you decide to become a DJ?

Man, it was probably around eighth grade or so. I spent a lot of time at the local skating rink. That also happens to be the same place I got my start. I was just drawn to wanting people to listen to what I was doing. I guess you can say music was my first true love.

2. How does music speak to you?

Music is emotional. You attach it to things. Good and bad. We all have those songs we have to hear or can't listen to. Music to me is my mood. A lot of the time, you can tell what I am feeling by what I am listening to. Not always what I play out in the clubs, but in my own time. Club music to me is what makes you want to dance, no matter what style/genre it is. If you feel it, you move to it.

3. What are your top three favorite songs right now, and the top three you can't stand?

My top three in no order (but there are so many more):

1. "Happier" - Marshmello

2. "One Kiss" - Calvin Harris

3. "Music Sounds Better with You" - Stardust

It's tough to pick three that I cannot stand. I try to keep an open mind about music because it's a personal preference. I just say, before you make requests, take a look around. Are they gonna dance to it? Or do you just wanna hear it? I try not to bash music. I'm an open book.

4. What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I played in an orchestra for four years. Cello.

5. When you're not making the world dance, what can you be found doing?

You can find me out on the golf courses, or in the stands at Mariners games. I'm a sports fan. I try to be active as much as I can. I also enjoy road trips and record collecting, of course. Support your local record store!
