Tennis squads play host to Libby, Ronan

The Columbia Falls boys tennis team made a strong stand at home at Columbus Park Saturday, taking 11 of 14 matches against Libby and Ronan.

Top singles player Niels Getts was 2-0 on the day, defeating Libby’s Ryker McElmurry 6-1, 6-2 before taking down Ronan’s Vincent Ortega in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.

Dillon Washington also defeated both of his opponents in straight sets, as did Colton Byrd.

The doubles team of John Gilk and Camryn Lingle took down Libby’s Zach Carter and Trey Thompson 6-2, 6-2 and Ronan’s Connor Cornwell and Sherman Violette, also 6-2, 6-2.

It was a rough day for the Columbia Falls girls as they fell to Libby 6-1 before bouncing back with a 2-1 win over Ronan.

Hannah Schweikert had the lone win against the Lady Loggers, taking down Marissa Wood, 6-0, 6-1.

Emma Upton picked up a win against Ronan’s Layla PrettyOnTop, 6-2, 6-4 and the doubles team of Taylor Jarrett and Anna Pickard defeated Skylar Shyma and Maddey Sevier in a close match, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.

Both teams will be at Libby Friday before hosting Hamilton and Corvallis at FVCC Saturday.
