Ansley, Rae win multiple events at Meet of Champions

POST FALLS — Holly Ansley and Victoria Rae were both double winners in their events at the District 1 Meet of Champions held at Post Falls High School.
District 1 consists of 16 schools that participate in track and field, 5A schools: Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Lake City, 4A Lakeland and Sandpoint, 3A Bonners Ferry, Timberlake, Kellogg and Priest River, 2A St. Maries and CDA Charter, 1A Kootenai, Wallace, Mullan, Lakeside and Clark Fork. The top 16 individuals in each event as well as the top 8 relay teams qualify for the meet regardless of classification. There are no team scores.
Sophomore Holly Ansley won the long jump and set a new personal best of 34-7 in the triple jump, one inch short of the school record. Victoria Rae, a junior, won the shot put and had a personal record of 128’11’’ to win the discus.
Other girls who placed for the Badgers were:
Abigail Gorton, third in the 1600 and fourth in the 3200; Jerzie Pluid, third in high jump; Emma Pinkerton, sixth in the 400.
The girls medley relay team of Jennifer Schmitz, Jenna Brooks, Camille Ussher and Pinkerton placed second. The 4x200 team of Schmitz, Morgan Burt, Ussher and Pinkerton placed fourth and the 4x400 team of Schmitz, Madi McIntyre, Ussher and Pinkerton also placed fourth.
Boys:
Conner Alexander was second in the 3200; Jake Jelinek placed second in the high jump; Alex Alverez was third in the 400; Quinn Tucker, fifth in the shot put and seventh in the disc; Aeden Carpenter was sixth in the pole vault, and Hunter Smith took eighth in the 3200.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Dakota Neilsen, Aaron Scott, Daniel Walker and Alex Alverez placed fifth. The same team placed sixth in the 4x100 meter relay. The sprint medley team of Noah Walker, Brady Hinthorn, Tyler Lucas and Duncan McKechnie placed fifth and the 4x400 team of Justin Mendenhall, Dylan Hines, Daniel Walker and Alverez placed seventh.
Up next on the Badgers’ tack schedule is districts this Thursday and Friday, where the top 4 individuals and the top 2 relays teams will qualify for the 3A state track meet at Middleton on May 17 and 18.

Lady Badgers struggle at Timberlake
SPIRIT LAKE — Taryn Soumas scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers, as she led the Timberlake Tigers to a 66-37 victory over the visiting Badgers on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Blayre Jeffs, a 6-foot-5 post, added 14 points for the Tigers, who are ranked #2 in the Idaho 3A state rankings.
