To mark the end of a successful concert season, Chorale Coeur d’Alene is throwing a musical party as a way to say ‘thank you’ to the community and to Peace Lutheran Church, which hosts weekly rehearsals. The free concert, “Voices United,” is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at Peace Lutheran Church, 8134 N. Meyer Road, Post Falls.

It’ll feature sacred and secular songs; selections by Belle Coeur, a 20-woman ensemble of the Chorale for treble voices along with a solo by Scott Thomas Callister, this year’s Young Artist Vocal Scholarship winner. Callister, who excels in many endeavors, is also a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship program, a graduate of Post Falls High School with highest honors and a first-place winner in district solo and ensemble music competition — this year and last.

Dr. Stan McDaniel, artistic director of the Chorale, composed and will direct one of the newer works called “One in Spirit, One in Song.” An unusual piece called “Christ the Appletree” is by a Stanford Scriven, a young composer and member of the renowned St. Olaf College Choir. He adapted an old poem from 1785 and dressed it in the style of early American folk canons.

There are also selections by Leonard Bernstein and by Rogers and Hammerstein from their “Sound of Music” production.

Although there is no admission charge, a free-will offering will be taken to help defray operating expenses. Chorale Coeur d’Alene, a nonprofit organization, has been promoting quality choral music from its inception in 2001, with a primary focus on presenting beautiful and uplifting sacred music, based on the belief that music is an art form that transcends all boundaries of religious creeds.
