Meals on Wheels needs donations of fans
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 6 years, 7 months AGO
The Lake City Center is gearing up for a busy summer, and recently director Bob Small reached out to The Press with some exciting news — they have an abundance of Meals on Wheels delivery drivers.
“Our volunteers recognize the importance of delivering meals to our seniors and for the first time since I’ve been here, we actually have a waiting list of volunteers who would like to deliver meals,” said Small.
He said coordinator Cathy South was the force behind assembling an army of delivery persons, but now they are looking for more area seniors, up to 30 of them, who need hot daily meals delivered to their home. There are no financial requirements and eligibility is open to those age 60 and up who are disabled or otherwise homebound.
“We want to make sure that every homebound or disabled Coeur d’Alene area senior who needs hot, nutritious daily meals… gets them. And we want to ensure that they also have access to a box fan to keep them safe during the upcoming summer heat,” said Small.
The center is accepting donations of new or slightly used box fans that can be distributed to those seniors who may not have air conditioning in their homes or apartments. Seniors can suffer from heat stroke, and for many, the lifesaving difference can be a simple box fan. Last year more than 40 fans were donated to Lake City Center by area businesses and individuals. All were distributed to those in need by our volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers.
Fans can be delivered to Lake City Center, Monday-Friday, at 1916 N. Lakewood Drive in Coeur d’Alene. For information please contact Lake City Center at 208-667-4628.
