Dalton Gardens officially got a new mayor Wednesday when Jeff Fletcher was installed on the council, but the city that borders Coeur d’Alene is still a council member short of a full board.

That’s why it is accepting applications until Friday for anyone who has a desire to take a seat on the panel.

The City of Dalton Gardens will accept applications to fill the vacancy for a council member until the end of the day on May 24, and the person chosen will cover the remainder of the term, which expires at the end of the year.

Fletcher, who was sworn in at a special meeting at Dalton City Hall, will be responsible for appointing the final council member to the assembly, which was left short handed after a recall election earlier this year left the city shy two council members and a mayor.

Spurred by what Dalton residents perceived as a rogue city administration, voters in a March special election recalled the city’s long time mayor, Steve Roberge, as well as two council members, Joe Meyers and Denise Lundy.

Fletcher, a Coeur d’Alene Fire Department station captain and paramedic, was chosen to be mayor by council members last month, shortly after Gov. Brad Little appointed Northern Lakes fire chief and Dalton Gardens resident Tyler Drechsel to the board.

The city is looking for applicants to fill the final seat. Applicants should combine some experience in government with knowledge of management, budgeting and human resources. A familiarity with city codes is an asset and applicants should want to be part of a team.

Applicants must be 18 or older, own property in Dalton Gardens and must have resided in Dalton Gardens for at least one year. Applicants who have already submitted an application for prior appointment do not need to resubmit.

Applications are available at City Hall, 6360 N. Fourth St. or on the website, www.daltongardens.com. Applications must be returned with a resume, including references and a letter of interest to City of Dalton Gardens, Attn. Valerie Anderson, [email protected].

The latest council member will be appointed at the June 6 council meeting.
