The Historical Button Club of Northern Idaho is hosting the 44th annual Idaho State Button Show on June 7 and 8.

Thousands of antique, vintage and collectible military and clothing buttons will be on display, along with educational presentations and competitive exhibits. Vendors and button experts from the western United States and Canada will be present to answer questions.

“People are welcome to come up to any dealer or any club member to ask them questions and to find out more about their buttons,” club secretary Simone Kincaid said.

Experts at the show can help identify the age and vintage of buttons, as well as offer advice on how to properly store and care for a button collection.

Antique buttons give a glimpse of the past — from durable underwear buttons made in the 1840s to buttons commemorating historical events like the Perry Expedition. “I always say that buttons are art in miniature,” Kincaid said. “If you like art or history, buttons tell that story.”

The button show is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Templin’s Red Lion Hotel in Post Falls, 414 E. First St.

Admission to the show is $3 for adults; children get in free.
