Brrrr! Hope everyone had a great summer. Thank goodness we live in a land of seasons, and full-on winter is just around the corner. So let’s get back to business!

World Cup opener at Solden — The World Cup season kicked off in Austria with Giant Slalom competition. 2018-19 World Overall Champion Mikaela Shiffrin narrowly missed the gold, settling for second place. Teammate Nina O’Brien posted her best ever WC result in 21st.

Tommy Ford finished fourth followed closely by Ted Ligety in fifth and Ryan Cochran-Siegle in 11th. The tour now moves to North America with events Copper Mountain, Lake Louise and the Birds of Prey in late November.

Ski Swap — SARS will be hosting the annual Ski Swap at the Bonner County Fairgrounds on Saturday so come find that great deal! Equipment turn in for sale will be available Friday afternoon. Sales will be Saturday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Entry is $2 per person or $5 for a family.

Warren Miller returns — It’s not winter until the Warren Miller says so. This year’s show, brought to you by the Alpine Shop, is this Saturday at 7 p.m. inside the Panida Theater.

Get ready to celebrate winter with Warren Miller’s “Timeless,” celebrating the 70th consecutive year of these great productions. Featuring ski legends like Glen Plake, alongside newcomers Caite Zeliff, Jaelin Kauf and Baker Boyd.

Road-trip with rippers from Arlberg to the Matterhorn, be immersed in the hometown hill of Eldora and discover a different side of Jackson Hole, plus much more. Once again, winter begins with Warren Miller. The event will include prize drawings during intermission, a silent auction and drawings for the Independence Racing Team Super Outdoors Raffle, which is currently underway.

The raffle features six major prizes, including a Schweitzer unlimited season pass, a six course golfing package for two, a paddleboard, a cruiser bike from Greasy Fingers and a week stay at Pend Oreille Shores. So bring a few extra bucks and win big!

Show tickets are available at the Alpine Shop for $15 or online at panida.org. This show always sells out so please buy early.

Junior Race Series sign-up — This popular series features free coaching, lots of prizes, lots of kids and lots of fun! Racers meet four Friday evenings in January from 5:30-7 p.m. No excuses – come join the fun!

Historically we get an 80 percent participant return rate, so you better register now. Entry forms can be found at the Alpine Shop in Sandpoint and at the Warren Miller Show.
