'JUNK MAIL': Decrying editorial decisions

Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 2 months AGO
| November 6, 2019 12:00 AM

In just two months, I find myself writing yet another letter of confusion and dismay with the paper’s editing choices.

I cannot fathom why the Coeur d’Alene Press continues to make the decision to publish hateful, bigoted, multi-phobic pamphlets and postcards not just IN the paper but ON the front page! Every time you choose to do so, you give eyes and voice and another large level of coverage and exposure to an ugly underbelly of society. Is the leadership of the paper doing this unwittingly or without the knowledge that having the hateful actions presented in full color on the front page is a win for those who send out or hand out this type of literature?

I am a subscriber, not simply a casual coffee shop reader. Almost daily, I wonder at my choice — do I live here or do I read the local paper. I’m not sure I can do both and feel welcome, safe or respected.

Once again, I am deeply disappointed in the paper’s decision to publish the ugliness on the front page. Your reporting described the postcard in great detail — choosing to also print it was unnecessary.
