Nov. 14, 1969 — SOUTHSIDE CLASSES SPLIT

The Bonner County School Board unanimously approved a proposal to place classrooms for the 164 displaced Southside School students in two other district schools until reconstruction can be completed on the fire damaged building. Grades one, two, seven and eight will be in the Sagle Elementary gymnasium. Grades three, four, five and six will occupy the second floor at the Old Farmin school in Sandpoint. Southside Principal James Stoicheff will teach the 7th and 8th grades half the day and perform administrative duties the other half, dividing his time equally between his students housed in the two schools.

RICHARD GREENS WELCOME DAUGHTER

A.S.H.3 and Mrs. Richard Green, Albany, Ga., are parents of a daughter, Aimee Lucienne, born Nov. 2, weighing 9 pounds. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Green Sr., Colburn, are paternal grandparents.

EARNS PURPLE HEART

Army Spec. 4 Steven J. Strand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Strand, Sagle, received the Purple Heart last month in Vietnam. A machine gunner in Company D, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile), Strand entered the Army in Sept. 1968. The 22-year-old graduated from SHS in 1966 and was employed by Bonners Ferry Lumber Co. before entering the Army.

Nov. 14, 1919 — A HAPPY ARMISTICE DAY

American Legion Post No. 15 celebrated Armistice day with the full accord of Sandpoint. For the legal holiday, stores were closed all day in honor of the 1st anniversary of the fall of the Hun.

Due to the cold weather no attempt was made at a parade, but the legion boys kept open house at their rooms in the Abbott building much of the day. The afternoon witnessed a football game between the high school team and the Gonzaga 2nd team, a 0-0 score keeping spectators on edge as the teams fought for supremacy. The day closed with a ball at the Liberty, with Whitehead’s jazz band from Spokane furnishing music for a crowd that jammed the Liberty to the doors.

WILLIAM D. MARTIN POST

At Wednesday’s American Legion meeting, on motion of Oscar Kalgren, the name of the post was changed to William D. Martin post in honor of the soldier who was the first of the Bonner county boys to make the supreme sacrifice.

AT REST IN LAKEVIEW CEMETERY

The late Dr. E.B. Patterson was laid to rest in Lakeview cemetery Saturday, following funeral services at the residence at (501) Church. All the local physicians acted as pall bearers: Drs. Floyd Wendle; E.F. Anderson; C.P. Stackhouse and O.F. Page. Also pall bearers were Peter Johnson, L.B. Brooks, B.H. Hornby and Beecher Hitchcock.
