BONNERS FERRY — The vehicle accident calls were streaming in, one after another, during the initial hour of the snowfall on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

A non-injury accident occurred on the Yoder’s Market property at 56 Plato Drive, off Highway 95.

A vehicle ended up in the deep ditch alongside the road and parking lot, initiating response by Boundary Ambulance and North Bench Fire Department along with a local towing company to help pull the vehicle out.

Drivers seemed to be having difficulty staying on the roads. Preparation for winter driving conditions and for possible accidents should be taken into consideration for the upcoming snowy weather.

“With one of our first snows, and several slide offs, it is a good reminder to slow down, leave space between you and the vehicle in front of you, and carry winter gear in your vehicle,” said Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer.

Recently, the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office hosted a no-cost Winter Driving Class that focused on driving in the snow, avoiding crashes and staying safe in case you become stranded. The course gave away a free Emergency Roadside Kit from Les Schwab.

Whether buying a pre-made kit or building your own, it may be a good idea to prepare for adverse weather and possible negative driving events you may be involved in or come across.

Items that may be useful in times of emergencies include booster cables, a flashlight, gloves, a poncho, a screwdriver kit, duct tape, cable ties, a utility knife, whistle, bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, and a first aid guide.
