BONNERS FERRY — Sam’s Stop & Shop is open for business, and the owners are excited to serve the community.

Mohinder (Mike) Singh and his brother Bob decided to open the gas station convenience store this year, and have big plans to include more food items. The brothers have been U.S. citizens for more than 20 years, and are originally from India.

Currently, the cafe area is stocked with a good selection of ice cream, which has become a favorite of some locals. Fried foods including corn dogs, Crispitos, french fries, chicken fries, burritos, and jalapeno peppers are also available at this time.

There is a coffee bar, too. Two tables are located in the seating area, near the hot food and ice cream case, for customers to enjoy.

The business is close to the middle and high school, and the Singhs’ future plan is to offer more lunch items to help bring more variety of choices for the students’ lunch break needs.

Local Bonners Ferry resident, Tawnery Stymus, is the store manager.

“Have you seen the lines at the pizza place during lunchtime?” Stymus said, explaining how the Stop & Shop could ease some of that congestion for the students.

Along with the food, beverages, and convenience items, the store also sells fuel. City Service Valcon fueling company is the fuel supplier for Sam’s Stop & Shop. They also sell propane.

The Singh brothers began their business-owning endeavors in the Sacramento area of California, and spend half their time there as well as here in Bonners Ferry and Priest River.

Another convenience and gas station, also owned by the brothers, located in Priest River, has been open for six months, and the Singhs also own a similar business in California. The California location has been in operation for the past 20 years.

Sam’s Stop & Shop is located at 6603 Main St. Hours of business are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
